I am Professor and Director of the School of Journalism and Mass Communication at The University of Iowa.

My research focuses on news literacy, misinformation and the use of digital and social media for civic and political engagement in diverse contexts. I teach courses on multimedia storytelling, social media, activism, and global digital media.

I received my Ph.D. in Mass Communications from the University of Wisconsin-Madison with a minor in political science and a certificate in African studies.
